invisible interfaces

clarke is awesome, it lives in your menubar and silently updates your position on fire eagle. See I quite like fire eagle but I dislike actually telling it where I am, clarke now does this for me at regular invisible intervals and I can use interesting fire eagle apps without doing anything

it makes me think about other invisible interfaces: like the one where you remove your headphones from your iPod and it stops playing, a feature without any UI overhead but it exists and helps you out, or the one where the you hold down your remote for 5 seconds and your mac starts sleeping.

in the future, if a machine knows my intent to do something could it just carry it out on my behalf? if I think about ‘which are the 5 the biggest skyscrapers in europe’ will it go onto alpha and find out and then email that to me or better still some kind of stream, where results just fade after a while, without existing in the first place
