re: apple-ultra-portable-macbook-rumor-roundup

Consider a regular Macbook, now strip away the keyboard and you’ve got a single tablet like display. Now imagine that’s screen is a touchscreen and you have an screen iPhone-style keyboard. That’s what some of the rumor sites are reporting that Apple is working on.

Factory Joe Mactablet mockup

Factory Joe’s adove concept runs OS X, the version found in the iPhone, but what if this device were to run Mac OS X, how would my finger interact with the close button?

It couldn’t. It’s far too big and would spill out onto other items, same with 90% of the fidderly onscreen stuff, it’s just too small to press with a finger.

Now see this noisy video of the pinch on the iPhone, which lets you shrink and enlarge web pages. Now also consider Resolution Independence which amoung other things allows Applications to be scaled up.

Therefore, could this new thing allow me to size the interface with my fingers, so I enarge small interfaces? Could I enlarge this Camino window with a touch so that my finger fits into the refresh button? This would essentially allow any mdoern Mac OS X application to be used on a touch screen device without serious UI modification or a special “touch screen version”.

Just speculation, but interesting speculation none the less.
