flash is too hard to be useful

I’ve used Flash off and on since version 5, now I’m doing my final year project and I need to use some trickery to make stuff look cool and work just as sexy.

One of those things is simple image panning, I’m quite use to ActionScript and I didn’t think it would be hard to get this working. My normally process is, figure out what I want to do, look for scripts that I can start from, then make changes into the finished thing. I thought this would be easier in AS 3.

I was wrong, I’ve spent all day trying to get something simple working and I feel like an idiot because I don’t understand Flash anymore.

Flash (or should I say AS 3) is now so rooted around the ideals of proper programming that it’s no longer a tool that designers can easily use. I’m quite tollerant of learning how to do things properly, but I feel that Flash, AS 3 and it’s editor are taking the piss.

Adobe please give us Thermo, spending hours on basic interaction is a total waste of time.
