Set to go live during the next few months, and at the behest of the UK music industry, Virgin’s scheme will see them send warning letters out to customers flagged as file-sharers by the BPI. Those who do not heed warnings to stop will see Virgin disconnect them from the internet. The scheme will also be available to movie and TV studios who wish to punish Virgin’s customers.
I’d like to give Virgin the benefit of the doubt and say they are probably going down this route to avoid legislation from the gov. Who know if Virgin will seek out customers to dissconnect or if they just want to have a system in place, to say that they’ve got a system.
I don’t think I’d switch to another ISP just on the basis of this news, we’ll have to wait and see if when they send ‘warning’ letters out, and then sort out a VPN.
